Been trying to solve this quest forever...lol
Ive put the orb into the pedestal dozens of times, and from what i gather this is all thats supposed to be needed to complete the quest, but...nothing happens every time...

Am I missing something, does this need to be done at a certain time of day...or during an eclipse?

By orb I assume you mean the crystal ball. For real all you have to do is "read book" in the previous room and then "place ball on pedestal". If it works the eclipse will happen. If not you lose the crystal ball and nothing happens. Also, only one person can do this a day. Do you only do this right before reboot?

i did this about an hour after reboot, and know for a fact there haden't been an eclipse between the time of the reboot and when i attempted it...again.

i've seen people do it very recently so maybe it was just bugged for a while?

it has to be at sunset or sunrise.......
